Recent Study Reveals Risks
As the study continued, the rate of displacement and total expulsion continued to rise. After 24 months, 17% of patients who were concurrently using IUDs and menstrual cups had experienced displacement. That is compared to a displacement rate of 5% among nonusers of menstrual cups.
Initially, the purpose of the study was not to look for relationships between menstrual cups and IUDs, but it quickly became clear that there was an increased risk of displacement that patients needed to be aware of.
