Examining Your Case of PID for Treatment Options

If you have PID cause from an STD, an IUD placement or another reason, you will need to seek help immediately. The longer you have PID, the worse off you will be with long term side effects from the disease. Early detection is the best in most all cases of PID for treatment and prognosis.

Your doctor will try to get a better handle on your diagnosis by using diagnostics. These can include a laparoscopic procedure that is used to take a sample from the uterus so they can analyze the type of bacteria or an endometrial biopsy. Depending on what your doctor finds, they can recommend the best course of treatment that will successfully treat your case of PID.

Treatments for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

After the initial diagnosis, pelvic inflammatory disease is treated with one or more antibiotics. Depending on the severity of your PID, your doctor might recommend intravenous (IV) antibiotics as well as an oral antibiotic.

If your partner has Chlamydia or gonorrhea, they also need to be treated appropriately. Otherwise, when you are cured of your PID, it is likely you will get it again if you keep getting re-infected with those STDs. Even if your partner has no symptoms, they need to get treated as well so you do not get PID again. If you are not sexually active and your PID is caused by something like your IUD, you should be the only one treated for PID at the time.

Some cases of PID can cause an abscess where some inflamed tissue on the abdomen collects pus. In this case, antibiotics are not effective any longer and it is recommended to have surgery to remove the abscess. If the abscess is not removed, it can rupture in the abdomen and cause infection in the surrounding tissue.
